History Boy Theatre Co. will hold open auditions for its 2014 summer musical production, Golden Boy of the Blue Ridge. Auditions will be held Saturday, March 22, at 7 pm at History Boy Theatre Co, 115 S. Wilson, in Jefferson. Golden Boy of the Blue Ridge is a bluegrass musical set in the 1930s in Appalachia. A young fugitive, Clayton Monroe, arrives one night at the cabin of moonshiner J.M. McFarland. When Clay says he has killed his father, locals are enthralled. Held up as a hero, the shy Clay begins to transform, gaining confidence and winning the attentions of his host’s daughter Maggie. Maggie’s fiancé, the craven Luther Coffey, enlists the aid of the crafty widow Hazel Grubbs to get rid of his new rival. Just as Clay is coming into his own, his father shows up looking for revenge. “Golden Boy of the Blue Ridge is a joyously tuneful, outrageously funny tale, served up with a splash of moonshine,” Angie Pedersen of History Boy Theatre said.
An optional pre-audition for those who want a sneak peek and insider tips on the choreography and vocal material will be held Tuesday, March 18, at 7 p.m. Character descriptions and more information can be found at www.facebook.com/historyboytheatrecompany.
